My dears, I’ve got yet another recipe for you that fits in perfectly with Phase 2 of the Sugar-Free Challenge and the Clean Eating concept! These Black Forest Chocolate Cherry Energy Balls are wonderful for when you find yourself craving something a little sweet – and it’s the first of many more treats I’ll be posting over Easter, all free of added sugar and sweetened solely with fresh and dried fruits.

I got the idea for the Chocolate Cherry Energy Balls from Michael Weckerle’s book Clean Eating to Go,* which I highly recommend. As the title makes clear, all of the recipes are for meals and snacks that can be eaten on the go. I’ve already made several of them, and will be making them again!

Here, I modified Michael’s recipe for “Cherry Powerballs with Cacao Nibs” to suit my preferences (and the ingredients I had in stock ;-).

In addition to raw cacao powder, these Energy Balls contain cacao nibs, which gives things an extra crunch. Stored in an air-right container, they will keep for weeks (if not months) in the fridge, which is the case with almost all Energy Balls.

Aside from the Brownie Energy Balls, the Chocolate Cherry Energy Balls are our absolute favorites – my husband adores them and snacks on them regularly! As a result, they don’t usually last very long in our house … ;-)

These Energy Balls are perfect for when you instinctively feel the need for something sweet. They remind me of Black Forest Cake – my mouth waters just thinking about it! :-) In the original recipe, almonds were used instead of cashews, which I’ll probably give a try at some point. It sounds amazing!
