Today I’m excite to present one of my favorite superfoods: hemp seeds!

Hemp is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world, with evidence that it was grown in Ancient Egypt and Ancient China. Hemp’s high levels of iron and magnesium are noteworthy: magnesium prevents fatigue, while the iron regulates energy metabolism and fortifies the immune system. But what really makes hemp a superfood is the abundance of essential fatty acids and minerals, as well as the fact that it contain all essential amino acids.

I use hemp seeds in salads, granola, muesli, yogurt, smoothies, and Overnight Oats, as well as in cooking and baking. Hemp is available with or without shells: the shell gives hemp a great crunch, while the de-shelled version is more tender (and often sold as “hemp hearts”). Hemp seeds have a taste that’s slightly nutty, slightly sweet.

Have you tried hemp seeds? What’s your favorite way to eat them?
